Teena Dorn’s love for animals began in childhood, growing up in Austin but spending time on her family’s west Texas ranch. Her grandmother’s ranch, filled with cattle, chickens, goats, and peacocks, further deepened this connection. Over the years, Teena’s family has cherished many beloved pets, each leaving a mark on her heart. Their current dog, Rusty, was adopted from a shelter at her son’s suggestion, joining their home some years after they lost Nicki, a spirited Jack Russell terrier. Nicki had a unique personality—he roamed their property with a sense of duty, even guarding a nearby school from visiting Canada Geese. His passing at age 10 left a lasting void that, though softened, is still felt today. Teena also understands deep personal loss, having lost her mother at 16. This loss remains vivid decades later, though counseling and the support of loved ones have helped her find healing. Today, Teena lives with her husband of 30 years. Their adult children often return to visit, filling the house with laughter and warmth. And Rusty, always close by, offers the comfort only a loyal pet can bring.
