Cougar Lane Lodge is a seasonal riverside restaurant, bar, lodge, and general store located in the tiny town of Agness, Oregon—tucked deep in the heart of the Rogue River wilderness. Surrounded by steep canyon walls, dense forest, and the wild and scenic Rogue River, the lodge serves as a rustic but welcoming outpost for jet boat travelers, hikers, anglers, and road trippers seeking a remote getaway. Our audience is a mix of adventurous tourists, multi-generational families, outdoor enthusiasts, and locals who love hearty comfort food and cold drinks with a view. The atmosphere is laid-back and unpretentious, with an emphasis on hospitality, natural beauty, and small-town charm.

Project Overview We’re looking to redesign the food menu for Cougar Lane Lodge, a seasonal riverside restaurant located in remote Agness, Oregon, deep in the Rogue River canyon. The lodge is a rustic, welcoming destination for jet boaters, road trippers, campers, hikers, and anglers. We offer a full selection of American comfort food, but our pride and joy is the authentic Ole Hickory Smoke Pit—slow-smoked meats that make our BBQ plates a signature experience. Design Goals We want the new menu design to reflect: The rustic charm and natural beauty of the lodge’s remote location The authenticity of our BBQ offerings An inviting, casual vibe that’s approachable for families, road-trippers, and outdoor enthusiasts Design Style Rustic but clean — think wood textures, smoke, maybe a touch of vintage or Western flair Bold, readable fonts (good for older guests and outdoor lighting) Use colors inspired by our environment: wood tones, river blues, forest greens, smoky greys, sunset oranges Menu Priorities All-American comfort food is offered, but BBQ plates should stand out visually (bolder headings, icons, highlighted section, or a smoke pit callout) Include a highlight or design element that references our Ole Hickory Smoke Pit (maybe a flame or smoke motif) Keep layout organized and easy to read, even when printed on a single or double-sided laminated sheet Our guests often dine after outdoor adventures, so clarity and simplicity are key Audience Our customers range from: Adventurous tourists on jet boat tours Families on summer road trips Locals who love good BBQ and cold drinks Hikers, anglers, and RV campers passing through Agness Print Format 8.5x14 or 11x17 paper, laminated Design should hold up well to wear, water, and outdoor use Optional Ideas to Explore A small section that features “From the Smoke Pit” or “BBQ from the Pit” with a branded look Subtle use of icons for different food types (burgers, ribs, salads, etc.) Use of lodge logo, or placeholder for one, in header or footer
